Hands Up
PREMHA began as a WhatsApp group in June 2021. The catalysts were the COVID pandemic and the murder of George Floyd in 2020 highlighting the ongoing racial inequity and its impact on health and social outcomes. We hope to become a voice for change in Australia on an issue that has been neglected for too long.

We were fortunate in obtaining funding for this website after applying successfully to the RANZCP Victorian branch Department of Health and Social Services funded COVID-19 Workforce Support Grant initiative. We are grateful to them for their support.

Racism remains a significant global social problem.

Evidence is increasingly demonstrating an association between experiences of racism at the inter-personal and systemic level and poorer mental health outcomes. As psychiatrists working in Australia, we believe that it is essential to address racism as a mental health concern for the wellbeing of the community.
